During the production for radio assignment we have produced multiple radio news broadcasts that would fit into everyday news broadcasts featured on various radio stations. In the process of creating our two radio segments we faced difficulties as my two connected stories did not have enough audio to form both types of treatments, this meant that I had to solve this problem to do one of the broadcasts had to be changed altogether. This changed the way that we tackled the two stories and meant that they loose their connection changing various features such as the target audiences.
The first we chose was based around a local event happening in Emsworth as it at the time was set to become the first ever Red Nose Day town. The event that happened over the weekend commencing on the Friday of Read Nose Day featured a series of individual events from a giant silent disco in the town square to stand up comedy in the local pub. The whole event raised money for comic relief and will go to help various children around the world. The event was organised by Wemsfest director Mark Ringwood. To start to create the script for the radio piece we had address who would listen to this particular story so we needed to identify the target audience. The audience for this particular story would be family orientated as they events being held are tailored to all ages and it takes just one of the family to hear it but it would be predominantly aimed at parents. As this is the target audience it is more then likely to be on an adult-contemporary station such as Heart FM.The next step to forming the script was deciding upon the treatment we wanted to use for this story we decided to use a voicer this meant that we had to arrange an interview with the leader of the event in this case Mark Ringwood. From here we formed a script using professional features such as introducing a reporters intro. Overall, to create this story once the audio had been recorded we needed to edit it into a short and snappy peice that was clear and concise whilst still retaining the information needed. All of the research done was through other news outlets and local webpages for the area.
The second story we choose to focus on was about the planned strikes by the National Rail. The strikes that were due to happen on Monday 16th would have lead to many train cancellations and delays so close to the then upcoming bank holiday weekend. The strike was due to cuts in wages given to the National Rail workers. The main target audience for this peice would most likely be commuters and holiday makers these would be between the ages of 18-50s and would be listeners to both contemporary and adult contemporary radio stations. The treatment we decided to use for this particular story was a vox-pop this was because we thought that the most effected party in this story was the general public so they should have their say. To record the vox-pops we asked a wide variety of age groups making sure that each answer was different depending on the travel of that person. To follow professional practice we made sure that enough people were asked the same question to get varied respoces and this could then forfill the minimum amount of 3 people on the peice. This was extended by the reporters script that featured all needed details provided through secondary research on various news outlets webpages.
Over the time of this assignment we as a team faced many problems that showed particular strengths and weaknesses. The main of these weaknesses was the time management as the project took longer then it should have to complete all tasks. We also had problems with the lack of audio that we produced due to not gaining enough whilst at the events, this could have been improved. Overall, We produced two stories that forfilled the given brief to the best of our ability.
